Adults over a certain age probably have similar memories of their first taste of school--the half-day kindergarten that featured singing, finger-painting, stories, and naptime. Whatever lessons we absorbed during those halcyon hours were not obvious ones, but we developed confidence, exercised our imaginations, and learned the basic schoolroom drill concerning school buses, milk money, and raising our hands before asking or answering a question. These days, kindergarten is a far departure from its earlier incarnation; instead of a loosely structured time to play and discover, modern kindergartens are more like First Grade 101, in which children are taught their numbers and letters and even assigned homework. Norman Brosterman, author of Inventing Kindergarten, doesn't approve.

Inventing Kindergarten is partly Brosterman's views about the importance of the traditional kindergarten in shaping the hearts and minds of children, partly a biography of an almost-forgotten educator, Friedrich Froebel, the inventor of kindergarten. In tracing Froebel's life and beliefs about education, Brosterman makes a strong case for returning to Froebel's original model in order to encourage the development of "a sensitive, inquisitive child with an uninhibited curiosity and a genuine respect for nature, family and society." As a 'Starters' book it is enough to whet your appetite and get you going on the main details of the Eye. Iridology studies the SOFT TISSUE of the Pupil and Iris of a person, which can detail exactly what is 'awry' in the human body. EVERYONE should learn this and treat themselves accordingly with the correct fruit and herbs. The idea to look in to this, for me, came from Dr Robert Morse, a most EXCELLENT Naturopath, who was very good friends with Bernard Jensen. This book is more like a brochure - so the pictures were somewhat disappointing (for me), but as a book to simply start off, it was great. I would always recommend Bernard Jensen's work and this will get you started. However, if you want precise and clear diagrams of the parts of the eye, you need to spend more and find a more comprehensive BOOK on the subject. My eyesight just couldn't deal with the small print in some areas. A good beginners guide though.

Much thinner than I expected... 38 pages and it’s big font at that... good information but the book (more like a stapled brochure) makes the author look bad in my opinion. The pages feel a lot like a magazine where it feel like the ink kind of rubs off onto your hands. The charts are the most important part for me and they’re small and hard to read. I would recommend looking for something better than this if you’re wanting to learn about it seriously for your health otherwise this is a good introduction or if you’re just curious about it. Not sure what I was expecting for $8 anyways. Doing better research beforehand next time.

This books looks okay for a very introductory foray into iridology by one of the leading experts, but the pictures are rather dark and poor quality. So far I have not seen many books on iridology available, so this is better than nothing.

Nice overview. Good pictures. A little smaller than I expected, and has some overview of therapies but not clear how therapies are put together. A deeper resource would be needed. However, good overview for the uninitiated!

Many of the photos in the book were dark and muddy making it impossible to learn what various conditions looked like. Photos on the back cover were excellent. "It is possible to determine useful information..." but no direction as to what and how. No real instruction.

Arrived on time, and its a very short book, don't know if I would buy it again though

I love this book for beginners. My copy was falling apart and I was so glad to be able to replace it. I trained under Bernard Jensen and he is the best.

I found this to be fascinating. The author gives an overview of how the iris of the eye reveals keys to health, nutritional deficiencies, areas of weakness, and illness. It's a must read for those interested in alternative medicine. The pictures were very helpful too - had me looking in the mirror!
